History of the “BROYHAN HAUS” and “GILDE” brewery in Hanover
This building is one of the oldest town houses in the city of Hanover, dating back to the late 14th century. In 1537, master brewer Cord Broyhan, renowned for his exceptional skill and craftsmanship, acquired the property using the wealth he had earned through
his brewing success. The half-timbered house was rebuilt in 1985; neither cost nor effort were spared to restore the historic building to its original state. Hence it carries the name “Broyhan Haus”.
The Gilde brewery is a true part of Hanover’s heritage, with roots dating back to 1546.
In 1526, master brewer Cord Broyhan created a new top-fermented beer, which sparked an economic boom. In 1546, Hanover’s brewers formed their own guild, shaping a thriving brewing tradition, symbolised by the “Broyhan Taler”, named after its brewer.
