History of the “BROYHAN HOUSE” and “Gilde” beer in Hanover
This house is one of the oldest townsmen houses in the city of Hanover; it was built in the later half of the 14th century. Master Brewer Cord Boyhan, formerly world-renowned for his skills, used his prosperity to purchase the house in the year 1537. The half timber-framed house was rebuilt in 1985; neither cost nor effort were spared to restore the historic building to its original state. Hence it carries the name “Broyhan House”.
The Gilde brewery is a true slice of Hanover. Our roots go all the way back to 1546, deep into the history of this city. In 1526 the brewer Cord Broyhan created a new top-fermented beer, and an economic boom followed. In 1546 the Hanoverian brewer founded their own guild of the city Hanover. The institution of the liquid gold was first shaped through the “Broyhan-Taler”, named after its brewer.
